Berwick Visit 2011

The Junior World Curling Championship was uneventful because the USA team did not qualify for a medal. Pete however considered it the trip of a lifetime because he rented some golf clubs and played St. Andrews. Gaye was his caddie. They left Perth for Berwick by train thanks to the arrangements made for them by Alan Skelly in Berwick. When they arrived in Berwick, Alan acted as their tour guide. “It was raining when they got to Edinburgh but sunny later on when they got to Berwick on Monday afternoon. I took them to the Union (Chain) Bridge so they could walk over the River Tweed from Scotland to England. Unfortunately the weather yesterday was cold, misty and drizzly so they couldn't really see down the coastline but they still seemed to enjoy it. We stopped for a coffee at Billy & Sheila's and Mary Scott came along too. We walked right around the Walls and to the old castle then visited the North Road cemetery to see your grandfather's headstone and plot.” ( The members of this family are all progeny of William McGall Skelly 1837-1916) Gaye and Pete and Tara were treated like royalty during their short visit.
