According to my father our line of the Skellys cannot be traced back to Ireland. How he knew this I do not know. It is known that there were years of turmoil in the border country of England and Scotland in the 12th-14th Centuries. In those years most Church records of births, marriages, deaths etc were destroyed by the warring factions. If there were any ancestral records that indicated that we had roots in Ireland, they were probably demolished at that time. Our ancestors, it is said, have been in Northeast Northumberland for the last 400 years.

GEORGE ALBERT SKELLY, was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England. He married IVY MADELINE ROSE CHOWNE of Dorchester, England in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on 10 June 1927.

The author is married to SHIRLEY MARY SKELLY (nee INGRAM). We have four lovely daughters.

VALERIE,  GAYE,  DIANE,  and  VERA.

The result is seven grandchildren.
